Hannah Gadsby announced as joint-winner of Best Comedy Show at Edinburgh Festival Fringe

Hannah Gadsby has completed an unheard of comedy trifecta, having today been announced as winner of the Best Comedy Show at Edinburgh Festival Fringe, revealed as the first-time ever joint winner with John Robins.

The award is the latest in her ever-expanding trophy shelf for her self-described swansong Nanette, which earlier this year also won the Helpmann Award for Best Comedy Performer, alongside the Barry Award for Best Show at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

Announced today at a ceremony during the penultimate day of the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe, Gadsby was declared victorious over the largest nominations list in Edinburgh history – edging out fellow nominees Ahir Shah, Elf Lyons, Jordan Brookes, Mae Martin, Mat Ewins, Sophie Wilan and Spencer Jones – all of who were tapped on the shoulder for nominations out of a gargantuan 700 eligible shows at the festival.

Gadsby now joins the illustrious list of winners of ‘the Oscars of comedy’, which includes the likes of Sam Simmons, Lano and Woodley, Dylan Moran, David O’Doherty, Daniel Kitson and 2016’s winner Richard Gadd.

Next month Hannah will be bringing Nanette for a season at the Sydney Opera House, and then a string of encore performances at the Arts Centre Melbourne in November, you can view all tour details here. There will also be a season of Nanette announced in London shortly – stay tuned to comedy.com.au for the details.
