Hannah Gadsby’s WOOF!
Woof! is a show about 2023, that Hannah toured in 2024, edited in 2025 and is now finally releasing to a worldwide audience in 2026. After a panic attack sparked an existential crisis concerning the confluence of their public and private identities, Hannah found themself ready to share some big thoughts and ask some big questions, like have I been changed by my success? What do you all want from me? And, where have all the cabbage patch dolls gone? Hannah is only so bold as to offer answers to some of these.
Hannah recorded their last three solo shows for Netflix, but with Woof! they wanted to break that pattern. If you didn’t get to see Woof! live, you never will – because the stand-up special does not exist…at least not in the traditional sense. Hannah recorded every night of their five-week New York City run to create an audio-only album, leaving their image on stage in the theatre.
Hannah is keen to bring back the intimate, focused experience of listening to comedy. Furthermore, they have long believed that the only way to truly subvert the male gaze is not to have a gaze at all – and it’s time for them to walk that walk. Finally, as a thank you for the incredible dedication of their global audience, they want to remove all barriers to consumption – as such, Woof! will be free to stream online worldwide.
But wait, there’s more…Woof! is a show with many layers, if you want to see them. You can’t see Hannah perform the show, but you can catch a glimpse inside Hannah’s head. Hannah has set up a studio to create animated, collage, fever-dream style film clips to accompany portions of the audio that add a whole new dimension to the experience. Hannah’s putting the ‘special’ back into ‘comedy special,’ and it’s now streaming, also for free, on YouTube.
Hannah added, “Seven years after Nanette changed my whole life and exposed me to an incredible, if inconceivable, audience around the world, it’s time to have another direct conversation with my – new – audience. I’m not the same person I was when we met. Allow me to reintroduce myself, on my terms. I am so proud of this show, and so excited about this new format. Please, get in my head, while I get in your ear…not in a weird way.”
Just as when they wrote Nanette, Hannah knows they are taking a risk, and they are not afraid to leave it all on the table. Who wants to sell tickets to the apocalypse anyway?
