Yack Festival announce first lineup for 2018

Yack, Sydney’s little festival for people who can’t shut up, is set to return for a sophomore season.

In 2017, the inaugural Yack Festival saw thousands of Sydneysiders converge upon Redfern’s Giant Dwarf to see interesting people banging on over two jam-packed weeks; including Wil Anderson, Ronny Chieng, John Safran, Myf Warhurst, Zan Rowe, Tom Ballard, Stan Grant, and Benjamin Law in conversation with The Kates from Get Krack!n; just to name a few highlights.

Now they’re ready to do it all again with the first announcement of their 2018 lineup.

Having just won Best Newcomer at Melbourne Comedy Festival, Danielle Walker will make her Sydney debut with Bush RatBob Franklin will present his show Yours Sincerely – a true story based on a pack of lies – or is it?; and Julian Morrow’s Photo Opp will be a slide night for current affairs junkies with a thought-provoking and fun look at the role of public life.

Two-time Helpmann Award nominee Zoë Coombs Marr will bring her show Bossy Bottom (performed as herself – not her terrible alter-ego male stand-up Dave); Meshel Laurie will explain why she is a Bad Buddhist while exploring the speed bumps and detours on the path to enlightenment; while Freudian Nip present a horrifying parody of a performing arts showcase.

You’ll also be able to join James Colley and Nakkiah Lui as they take part in a free-flowing conversation about Australian satire, the Australian identity, and their own methods for taking the piss and not giving it back; Michael Hing and Victoria Zerbst clearing out their notebooks and sharing their failed jokes, worst gigs and beautiful ideas that were just too genius for their time; plus a very special Yack edition of Story Club celebrating the theme ‘When We Were Young’, featuring stories of what we knew back when we knew everything.

Much, much, much more is still to be announced. Yack Festival 2018 will take place from 19 October – 4 November at Giant Dwarf. For bookings and more information, visit the yackfestival.com.
